Description
The Morningstar River winds its way along the southwest edge of town on the far side of the Highway. Blue-Green waters rush from southeast bending sharply just south of town to emptying out in the ocean to the west. The currents and depth change often because of rainfall and melting of snow in the surrounding hills and mountains. The hills to the south create a picturesque waterfall that makes it impossible to boat out of the valley. Walker Creek empties out into the river underneath the large highway bridge going into town, it heads into the eastern hills snaking its way through the southern valley.
Several little piers and docks are found along the river. In the right season, the river is teaming with fish. Coho Salmon, Cutthroat Trout, Chinook Salmon, Striped Bass, Winter Steelhead, Sturgeon, Shad, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, Panfish and Bullhead Catfish. Closer to where the river spills out into the Pacific Ocean there is clamming and crabbing to do.
