Descriptions

Exterior

Acreage is in short supply but the Elkhorn Vineyard manages to etch out enough to support its winery. The rich earth has supported the Knight family and their business for years. Large yards and extensive fields are groomed and given the utmost tending by the hired hands and family alike. A flagstone path leads up from the graveled parking to the expansive lodge. An aged polycarbonate greenhouse sits along one side of the main drive up to the lodge.

The old worn shake exterior is lovingly cared for, the cedar aged over the years to fade but it is obvious the sealant has been applied consistently. The covered porch is welcoming as it wraps around most of the exterior and an extended version overlooks a beautiful patio and small stream with its own bridge. It has a grand view of the larger field. Butted up against some of the native woodland lilies of the valley, daffodils, crocuses and more grow along the shadowy floors and add color to the green landscape.

Event Area

The Vineyard gardens wrap around the back and take up the rest of the position along the forest edge with benches periodically poised amongst Rhododendrons and Azalea bushes. Brilliant hydrangeas bloom in the summer. Archways take up positions along the grey graveled path strewn with clematis and wisteria. Honeysuckle grows wild in the area and elderberries are collected on occasion from the wild bushes to make a rather rare and wanted form of wine in the area. A Knight specialty.

The gazebo is large and circular, covered and surrounded by large trees and smaller pines. It gives access to one of the fields and the pathways of the gardens. A bridge over the small stream allows for a scenic approach where the path up to the large structure often used to host parties and weddings is edged by hand laid stacked wooden fencing.

Winery & Cellar

The Knight Vineyard public entrance leads to a sunroom for when the weather calls for cover. There are a few tables and chairs here but another door then leads into the high ceilings of the tasting room and the somewhat modern feel to the rustic wood trim. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling and several tasting bars are set up to accommodate larger groups with their current wines and years on display above each one in metal hangers.
A set of wood stairs leads off slightly to the right next to a wall display of the wine available for purchase. The stairs down are set with cast iron railings and below in a cement floor and walled vast room is the carefully maintained casks of fermenting wine. The scent of it mixed with the oak casks fills the entirety of the room. Inset lights give a flush feel to the storeroom.

Interior

The living area is more compact with the angled kitchen built for optimal use with close storage and all counters within reach of a single cook. The angled bar has a small built in an office near it and overlooks the family room, snug and pulled up close to an old wood fire burning fireplace resting on an exposed river stone. A side staircase takes up the other side of the room with storage beneath and an access door near the kitchen to the outside porch leads out to a sitting area with greenhouse within a quick walk.
Another door leads into the laundry room that in effect leads into the event area.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom has enough space for a king sized bed with pretty good size walkway of a thick brown wall to wall carpet. A walk-in closet is separated from the main area by accordion style doors. If a smaller sized bed or much smaller multiple beds were in place, there would be plenty of space for a dresser, vanity, entertainment center, those sort of things along the whitewashed walls. On the opposite side of the room from the walk-in closet is an en-suite full bathroom.

Big Bedroom

The large bedroom has enough space for a queen sized bed with pretty good size walkway of a Berber beige wall to wall carpet.
