Doozer Do

New Doozers need to speak with Boo about getting their own sections. Or if they are comfortable with Wikidot code, they are welcomed to insert it themselves.

  1. Let Boo or PirateSpice know that you'd like to help out with descriptions and would like the password for the wiki so the following can be done.
  2. Make a Wikidot account.
  3. Join the Dawn's Early Light Wiki using the big "Join the Wiki" button on the home page with the password you were provided.
  4. Look over the Needed Lists below to decide where you can help.
  5. When you pick the things that interest you, only choose a few at a time, that you intend on doing within a few days. Please, no more than 5 items should be reserved at the same time.
  6. On the chosen pages go to the bottom of the page and click the TAGS link next to the FILES link at the very bottom of the page.
  7. Put an * next to the wip subcategory tag. Ex: wip:desc, so it looks like: *wip:desc
  8. Include a new tag that's wip:name. Ex: wip:boobear. This lets everyone know that you intend to do the desc so there's no toe stepping and multiple people doing the same thing.
  9. Save the tags.
  10. Do the work, preferably using a word processor of some sort that will help you with typos and grammar.
    • Grammarly is a free add-on for Firefox and Chrome, and it's really helped Boo out. All you need is some text box in the browser to use it.
    • Towards the bottom of this page are Mad-Lib Templates for Descriptions, Relationships, and History. They can be used to get the wheels going.
  11. When the work is done. Put it into a +request. Put all descriptions or info for one thing/location/person into one +request. Please use the formatting in the example below for descriptions:

+request DESC: <Name>=<wikilink> %r%r<submition of descs.>

For example: +request DESC: 403 Birch St. - Crane's Bakery=wiwimush.wikidot.com/location:b-4-3 %R%R EXTERIOR DESC: %R%T Outside of the bakery in front of the shop… %R%R INTERIOR DESC: %R%TThe smell of fresh baked bread and pastries fills the air of the small bakery. …

Doozer Description Dos-and-Don'ts

In an effort to keep things uniform in appearance even when having so many different people working on the description here are some Dos and Dont's of Doozering.

  • Do not use 'you' or 'one' in your descriptions. This is called Meta-Descing and is not the style of describing used here.
  • Do not use what is known as 'Tour Guide' style of describing. Example: Through the front door is a large sign that says welcome, moving on into the living room to the right of the entry there is several stuffed chairs.
  • Do present a description of it was seen from any and all angles and spots. Like what some gaseous form would see from any spot in the location. Directionals or lean into more vaguery like west, north, east side of the room or on the far side of the room from the entry instead of instead of, to the right of the door. Because right and left become rather confusing, is it left of the door with it in front or behind you if you are standing at the door? Etc.

Below is a bit of code for those that find it difficult to churn out a description for their character. With all of the character's, I've ever made I find this sort of boost helpful and decided to offer it to the masses with the hope that it helps everyone. The Descs themselves aren't perfect, but they are just truly supposed to be an inspiration that is manipulated into a final more personal product. ~~ Boo

Just copy and paste everything (I know it's a lot but when it's done it's not all that much at all, the options just inflate it visually at first) in the box below into the section on your wiki page for Description. Alter what comes after the ='s picking one of the many many many options I've given or put in your own! This will provide a base, two-piece outfit, and dress/gown separated descriptions. Things such as scent/perfume, tattoos, scars and makeup lines can be attached to the base desc if you prefer, where you prefer. Only fill in up to the accent= line if you only care about the base desc and don't want to worry about the outfit parts.
