Naomi Kuroda is a young woman, roughly in her mid-20s, of Japanese heritage with goldhoney skin tone. Standing at 5'3" and is around 115 pounds she sports an overall slender body type. Shoulder blade length ink-like hair is done in a down and loose style framing an oblong shaped face. With almond-shaped dark chocolate brown eyes that are set to either side of her small nose overall, her features are very delicate. Below that small round nose is a bow-shaped set of lips. The rest of her oblong shaped face is accented in soft cheeks, jaw and comes to a wide but slight chin. About her is the smells of rainwater and faintly of jasmine.

Naomi is not secretive about the fact that she is a Japanophile. In fact, it's a point of pride and she literally wears it. Around the house and her family she's t-shirts and jeans, but when she's out and about and trying to bring beauty and joy to the world she wears one of her kimonos and does her hair traditionally.

Naomi is a Japanophile in a family of 'Muricans. Her grandparents time in an internment camp during World War II created a rejection of the heritage they came from. It wasn't until she was in her mid-teens when she went to go see The Last Samurai with her siblings that it all started. The forced loss of culture depicted struck something very deep in her. After this movie, she did a bunch of research on what the culture was like before it was westernized. Her passion was further stoked by the premiere of Memoirs of a Geisha, though by this time she had learned enough of the culture including the language that she was one of those that picked the movie apart. Her family picked her apart for that though, her siblings especially teased her rather harshly for it.

Naturally, when the time came Naomi chose to go to University overseas at the Miyagi Gakuin Women's University in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. There she participated in Culture Studies, Food and Nutrition Studies. While there she flung herself into the culture, she even converted to Shinto. It was a bit of a culture shock about the sexism in the professional sense even in the big city of Sendai. So much so that after she graduated she could not find the work she went to school for and she decided to go home and try there. Many of her female dormmates also displeased with the lack of prospects all planned on joining Naomi so they could work the business, a Japanese Restaurant and Teahouse together. Things were delayed by the earthquake and tsunami in 2011. She and her friends did all they could to promote morale and beauty to those affected more so than they were during the disaster. Their dormitory suffered some flooding, but the kimonos they kept in storage high in closets in their hermetic containers were perfectly fine. The girls got all dolled up in their traditional outfits and hair and they made rice balls and brought their instruments out. Naomi will never forget the look in people's eyes as a group of traditionally garbed girls walked above the murky streets in their high teeth wooden geta sandals called okobo, passing out rice balls to the ruined neighbors playing and singing their folk songs and instruments.

When things normalized enough that she didn't feel like she was abandoning her friends and neighbors, that weren't joining her, for greener pastures she did return home to Oregon. Some of the girls did not have all the money to join her, so she would spend the next few years saving up with them to one by one make sure that everyone that wanted to come could make it over with the proper visas and everything. Having a judge for a father and a lawyer for a mother really helped out in this. It also helped out that they were willing to co-sign and help Naomi purchase an old nursery in town that specialized in Japanese Koi ponds and flora. With all the helping hands available it only took several months to get the business remodeled and Nihon Gardens Japanese Restaurant and Teahouse opened for business. Knowing her hometown Naomi designed it to be something exotic without being pretentious. That delicate balance was found and the business has been doing very well ever since.

Story Hooks

Connections, leads, and goals that can potentially generate role-play.

  • Schooling: Naomi went to Miluk Elementary School, Walker Middle School and graduated from Rocklin High School in 2005. Which means she was there from 1999 - 2005.
  • Japanophile: Naomi loves all things Japanese. More specifically traditional pre-westernized Japan. But that doesn't mean she hates modern Japan, or even America in any way shape or form. She just feels a deep connection to ancient feudal japan.
  • Business Owner: Naomi owns Nihon Gardens Restaurant and Teahouse she is a bit of everything in this business, sushi chef, hostess, tea ceremony hostess and sometimes she will act as an entertainer with stories, song, and dance.

Ernie Kuroda Ernie Kuroda
(Muggle.) Father has never quite understood why I embraced the Japanese culture like I do. He really didn't understand why I left home to go to college in Japan. However, since Naomi's business hasn't gone bottoms up already she has seen some understanding from her father. He is often a customer and that means a lot to Naomi. Even though he didn't understand why she wanted it so badly, he still helped her go for her dreams.
Linda Kuroda Linda Kuroda
(Muggle.) ((Open for Creation.)) She has always had the greatest connection with her mother. Thankfully this new business venture of theirs has only brought them closer. Having a lawyer for a mother has really helped with things with Nihon Gardens. She knows her mom is the reason why Ernie and Linda come in to eat at the restaurant as much as they do.
Kuroda Kids Kuroda Kids
(Muggle. Maybe 1 Muggle-born.) ((Open for Creation.)) Naomi is the black sheep of the siblings. When they were younger they really were a bit mean with the teasing of Naomi's Japanophile interests.
